If all you know Randy Newman for is his copious movie soundtrack work (for which he's received a staggering 17 Oscar nominations), here's a chance to discover Newman as a talent in his own right, outside the Hollywood studio system. Harps & Angels is Newman's first album of all new, non-film related material in almost a decade. The album was co-produced by music biz big names Mitchell Froom (who has worked with Elvis Costello and Pearl Jam) and long-time Newman collaborator Lenny Waronker, father of gadfly drummer Joey Waronker.
