Although Sweaty Magic sounds like it might be a continuation of the odd mojo Rafter had working on his 2008 album Sex Death Cassette, the songs on the EP aren't just castaways from that record. Instead, they mostly stem from a collaboration Rafter undertook with photographer Lizeth Santos to complete a piece of art every day. Because of this, the songs were very DIY for Rafter, with him singing, playing all the instruments, and handling production. Some of these songs were put up on the Asthmatic Kitty website with accompanying photos from Santos. All of the seven tunes have simple one word, non-capitalized names like "juicy" and "sassy." Those names should tip you off that there's a funky, dancey element to this EP.
