Ponytail
Ice Cream Spiritual!
Label: We Are Free
What's this - a band of oddballs from Baltimore? Get out of town! Seriously, though, is there something in the water in Charm City that leads to so much pop rock zaniness coming out of that Maryland locale? It should go without saying, then, that if you're a fan of Dan Deacon, Beach House, or any of the other young, intriguing acts out of Baltimore, you'll probably find much to enjoy in the music of Ponytail. Fitting for a band that mentions ice cream in an album title, Ponytail's music is thick with sweet, psychedelic giddiness. This is the band's second album, after 2007's Kamehameha. Ponytail had a little more time to craft Ice Cream Spiritual! - a week, instead of just one afternoon - so while the album still brims with the band's raw earnestness, it is a bit more refined.
