Peter Doherty

Grace/Wasteland

Release Date: March 24, 2009
Label: Astralwerks

Abstract

Blur guitarist Graham Coxon is the latest famous guitar player to coax new music out of Pete Doherty (Mick Jones of the Clash being the coolest), the singer most famously known as a tabloid mainstay in the U.K. more than for his music as a member of Babyshambles and the Libertines. But Doherty has entered a period of sobriety, during which he holed up with Coxon to work on his debut solo album, Grace/Wasteland, a diverse collection of 12 songs that bounce between reggae and Doherty's standard post-punk. Doherty's got his attitude (and drug problem) under control, but he is still waiting for a stateside breakthrough that has been predicted since 2002, that may or may not happen with Grace/Wasteland.

why is this album taking so f**king long to leak? Usually I always nab albums at least a month before official release.

this album IS AMAZING!!! and i normally don't really like his stuff that much, like 25% like/75% hate....

...but this solo album is seriously fantastic

because record labels are smart now and don't let the journalist idiots hear an album from a promo CD they send them anymore. They invite them to a location and sit in the room so they can take the copy of the CD with them when previewing is over. Leaks will decrease because if anything leaks now the labels know it has come from within their own ranks.

That's not really true. At least not in the case of this album. I've had a promo copy of this for a while.

it is leaked through some web sites such as nme, you can preview a few songs. secondly, if you do intend on downloading this album thats just a shame. let's hope you have at the very least bought some form of music from the man in the past.

don't think i don't download myself as well. i just have a lot of faith in peter.

I've bought some of his stuff in the past. I don't feel bad about downloading it because that's what Pete was/would have been doing with other people's music, his drug addiction didn't exactly fund itself.

Go on his myspace music, their all their to listen too. land of the english roses and arcady can be downloaded though if you know where to look, and its spelt arcady. not arcadie!

Beautiful album where Pete's wordsmith shines through. Too many sublime moments to list. Lady Don't Fall Backwards is the current favourite, particularly for the romantic line 'meet me in Chinatown for opium and tea.'

Love the album. I never doubted it would be superb. I`m more stoked by the Libertines reunion. If Pete keeps off the junk,it will happen. I`m an old git but the Libs make me feel young and alive.
