Pattern Is Movement
All Together
Label: Hometapes
It might be wise to approach the origin myth of Pattern Is Movement with some skepticism. As the group's label, Hometapes, tells the seemingly out-of-synch tale, Chris Ward and Andrew Thiboldeaux met as teenagers when they were in a Christian hip-hop group and bonded over a mutal love of Dr. Dre's The Chronic. Don't expect to hear traces of D.C. Talk or gangsta rap on All Together, though. Pattern Is Movement plies a sound similar to Caribou with its flights of sonic and melodic fancy. The ten songs on All Together reportedly take inspiration from a group of old photographs Thiboldeaux's brother found on a street in Philadelphia. The album was recorded with Scott Solter in Solter's own studio; he's also worked with John Vanderslice and the Mountain Goats.
