For a moment, it appeared that Paramore would be gone just as quickly as they arrived. In early 2008, the Tennessee quintet announced the cancellation of several shows and a looming hiatus due to issues within the band. Fortunately for Hot Topic stores and pop-punk lovers around the country, the band eventually decided to remain together and record a follow-up to their breakthrough album, Riot! Out of that inner turmoil came most of the inspiration for their third album, which has been described by the band as heavier and more emotional, with the lyric writing process being especially difficult for lead singer Hayley Williams who had to write about her feelings with tensions in the group still abound. Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Avril Lavigne) is once again behind the boards for the band.
