The theory that mixtapes are the realm for the new and interesting is shot to death by DMP's The Teamsta Mixtape. This Virginia-based group, consisting of Black-N-Deckah, Big Shot, Killah Khi and Star, cobbles together seventeen tracks that run the gamut from decent to reprehensible.
The group reworks New Edition's "Mr. Telephone Man" under the guise of "Mr. Smif-N-Wessun Man," which ends up being no more than a trite ode to guns. Petey Pablo and Fam-Lay do separate guest spots on "Freestyle" and "Pop 'Em," both of which are riddled with humorless and boring rhymes and commercial-lite beats.
One of the few bright spots comes late on the tape, that being the Royce Da 5'9"-featured "My South Game." It hints at what DMP and Nottz are capable of, although an already respected emcee helps bring that out. The old-school feel of the beats make the track. These guys have potential, but it doesn't shine through here.
