Pianist and vocalist Nina Simone has been a familiar subject of retrospectives – from the truck stop variety to, now, the comprehensive box set type – but her incendiary brand of performance and livelihood seems apt for reassessment in an especially heated election year. This set's three CDs and one DVD covers a wide swath of her career, from her early Bethlehem recordings in the late '50s to her last recordings on Elektra in the '90s.
