Nik Freitas is definitely a DIY kind of guy. He's known for handling all the aspects--writing the songs, playing all the instruments, and recording everything--on his own in his Poppy Peak studio. He's done so for three earlier albums. And he did the same on Sun Down, which is his first for the Conor Oberst-affiliated label Team Love. Freitas has opened for Bright Eyes, an arrangement that apparently comes complete with a Team Love record deal (see also Tilly and the Wall, Simon Joyner). The label compares Freitas to David Bowie, Paul Simon, and Jon Brion.
