Abstract

Give ‘em credit for making it to album six, despite whatever slings and arrows they’ve suffered from critics, music fans, concertgoers, etc.—Nickelback has made it to their sixth record on a post-Grunge formula that’s lasted several years longer than the genre it so muddily apes.  Produced by Mutt Lang, expect the expected (a Wal-Mart-only exclusive track), expect the “man, rockin’ and rollin’ is hard” song (“Never Be Alone”), and expect subtlety (“Something in Your Mouth”).

I went to see them last year in concert & they were by far one of the best bands I've ever seen live. My friend & I actually caught the drummer's drumsticks after a solo he did, SO much fun. I highly recommend seeing them live. I just heard their new single "Gotta Be Somebody" off of their upcoming album Dark Horse & I'm super excited to get it now, I can't wait. Nickelback is AWESOME!!

Can't wait for the album, crazy to think it's been 3 years since their last one. With how much their singles get played on the radio, you would think the album came out late last year or earlier this year.

This guy on another site actually said that, now I know this sounds so absurd, based on the TITLES, this will be an awful album. That's right, he was judging an entire album, of which he hasn't heard anything, off of the titles of the songs. Sure, Something In Your Mouth and S.E.X. seem like odd titles, but maybe they are going for a harder sound on this album? Could be.

Rocked to these guys since "How You Remind Me" burst onto the charts. Got all their albums to date. Can't wait to get my hands on this new one. Seen them in concert opening for the Rolling Stones in Auckland, only went to the Rolling Stones to see Nickleback. Love Into the Night with Carlos Santana too. Chad just keeps getting better.

your name, you will not be the first. new albums and movies get on torrent sites many days before the actual release date. And they are all mostly CD quality if the uploader is good.

I've been a big fan of Nickelback for a long time, I love their stuff, but you know, after just hearing "Gotta be Somebody" and "Something in Your Mouth', I'm not so sure. What has this new producer done to them? I know every band has to change, but as a loyal fan to their older stuff, I'm not so sure I like the new sound. I love his voice, and they've kind of messed it up in the new tracks. I'm sure it will be a big success and they'll get new fans and tons of money, but it doesn't really sound like their style anymore -- and that's what I loved about them.

i have to agree with '...' gotta be somebody is a little to cheesy... and chad's voice is sometimes distorted too heavily. it'll be a success surely... and for those who really like nickelback i can recommend 'just to get high' and 'shakin' hands', i think they're the best songs on Dark Horse...

Dark Horses is a case of what could have potentially been great being slightly reduced by a chance "experiment". I feel like going with Mutt Lang on production set this materal back a step. Some of the potency of the Nickelback sound is lost in all the sheen and gleam of Langs production, of which I have never been the greatest fan. He has a way of sucking all the life out of a mix aned spitting out song cycles that all blur into one big muddy mess. No slight to Nickelback for wanting to take a chance and try something new. I would have loved to see them either stick to a game plan that has worked or maybe gone with someone like Brian Howes or Tom Lord- Alge for a slightly new direction- two producers who know how to put a little polish on a song while still leaving in some life and rawness to a cut. No doubt Dark Horse will still go on to be a huge commercial success, but I dont feel like the material will match the mark set by All The Right reasons in this form. So goes the old adage, if it aint broke, dont fix it! Just my two?

I love the new album, and although Somethin' in Your Mouth may be subtle, S.E.X. is the furthest thing from subtle.
And Never Gonna be Alone seems more like

As a HUGE fan (meaning I went on the tour for 13 shows in 2006-07 for All the Right Reasons release), I have to say that this album needed to be split in two. One for ballads (aka money is needed so sell, sell, sell) and the other for harder more of the rock-style that NB is known for. I am disappointed not by the music but by the arrangement of the cd - it should've been better than this. I think they needed a longer break between albums....

I love Nickelback they are one of my favorite bands. I own 4 of their CDs..... But this CD sux!! Why did they change!? It doesn't even sound like Nickelback anymore its too mellow and the vocals don't have that kick that Kroeger gives to them anymore i just hope they don't stay this way. They need to go back to Silver Side Up style of play

Just to get High is my favorite song on the Dark Horse album. It is a story teller's song. I really enjoy all of their music. Keep up the great work Nickelback. You have a chance to be one of the best bands in rock history.

I just listened to a couple of tracks from the 'Dark Horse'- 'Gotta be Somebody' and 'If today was your last day', and i was transportes into a completely different world. Both the songs are really fantastic just like their earlier numbers. I think Nickelback is on track to be a cult band.
