So, how exactly does a modern-day singer-songwriter follow up an album-long homage to Doris Day anyway? Well, if you're the perennially idiosyncratic songbird Nellie McKay, and you're coming off the aforementioned tribute, Normal As Blueberry Pie, you return to writing your own idiosyncratic blend of alt-pop and Tin Pan Alley-esque tunes. That's the agenda for Home Sweet Mobile Home, which could really just be seen as the follow-up to 2007's Obligatory Villagers, her last batch of self-penned songs.
