My Brightest Diamond

A Thousand Shark's Teeth

Release Date: June 17, 2008
Label: Asthmatic Kitty

Description

My Brightest Diamond is led by Shara Worden, just one of the many talented, quirky singer-songwriters over at the high school gifted program that is Sufjan Stevens' Ashtmatic Kitty label. A Thousand Shark's Teeth is the sophomore album from Worden and her band, after the 2006 debut Bring Me the Workhorse. Since this is an Asthmatic Kitty release, you know you can expect plenty of pretty, lush orchestration. Worden handled arrangement and production duties on the album. Some of the "new" songs here actually predate Bring Me the Workhorse. Worden deftly mixes high and popular culture on the album; "Black and Costaud" borrows lyris from an opera by French composer Maurice Ravel, while "Like a Sieve" contains a Tricky sample. Shark's Teeth was recorded in New York City, Los Angeles, and Berlin, and mixed by Husky Hoskulds, who has done similar work for Tom Waits and Elvis Costello.
