Muse

The Resistance

Release Date: September 15, 2009
Label: Warner Bros.

Abstract

Muse frontman Matthew Bellamy has described the British trio's fifth album as "all very orchestral," which would make it one of the band's biggest departures yet. While experimentation and prog-rock have long been a part of Muse's sound, fans could always count on there being full on rock-out moments like "Knights of Cydonia" or "Time Is Running Out," which there are fewer of on The Resistance. Not to mention the possibility of the long-rumored "15-minute space-rock solo," which allegedly is the "Exogenesis" three-song suite that closes the album. The Resistance also marks the first time that the band has solely produced an entire album after taking on a more active role than ever before with the production for 2003's Black Holes and Revelations.

I never saw an article so small with so many mistakes... Exogenesis is a 15 minute orchestral song, not "space rock solo", adn BHAR was released in 2006 not 2003... Time Is Running Out is not a 100% rock song, and The Resistance will not be an orchestral album... Weird...

mac makes very good points. This spastic obviously doesn't know what he is talking about. Muse's "rock out" (awful expression) moments are more the likes of stockholm syndrome, hysteria, assasin. and plug in baby. What the heck is a 15 minute rock solo anyway? Furthermore, what departure have they taken? Have they left the normal style them employ? Have they deviated from what "Muse" is? I think not. Do your research my friend and ensure you actually have listened to more than a band's singles before you attempt to comment on what their music is. Origin of Symmetry. Nuff said.

matt actually did say a while back the new album would feature a 15minute space rock guitar solo.

this cd is genius...any songwriter will respect it.....it may be less catchy but judge the music on went into it....this CD was about passing a message, look at this as art not just music, stop judging music like regular north americans....next thing u know muse will be opening for miley cyrus if people keep this up.....MUSE are the greatest song writers of this century....(not serious about them opening for miley cyrus, but u know what i mean)...this cd is original, intricate and well rounded...not to mention how talented muse is

Pretty ambitious album. But I'm afraid Muse do not have enough rock creds to pull this one off and make this convincing. Far from original actually @jer. Queen x Radiohead x Debussy ???!!! Mashing up several genres to create a new one is just that, fusion. (not altrockpera or anything else Muse thought they've invented) If you can get pass United States of Eurasia, aka Collateral Damage, aka Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody with Chris Martin on Vocals, make that Chris Martin trying to become Thom Yorke on vocals (and thank you Matt for stating that you bit Queen on this track), overall, it's decent and listenable. 8/10
