Murs and Terrace Martin first linked up when the latter produced two of the former's tracks on his Warner Bros. debut, Murs For President. Those cuts, however, weren't necessarily all the two wanted to do together. Murs explained that he and Martin need to do something more laid-back and fun as their Murs For President collaborations were rather serious in nature. The result of that need is Melrose, an album that finds the duo tackling the vibes of '80s hip-hop with a distinct West Coast sound. Both Martin and Murs provide vocals throughout the album while the former produced the majority (if not all) of Melrose.
