Before trying his hand at electronic and hip-hop-based grooves, Mophono was spinning and crate-digging at shows and record stores through the Bay Area. Also known as DJ Centipede, Mophono made a name for himself DJing at the Future Primitive parties, his own Change The Beat weekly shows, and Brainfeeder's huge live show on Oct. 10, 2010 in Los Angeles. He was also linking with like-minded artists such as the Gaslamp Killer and Flying Lotus, the latter of whom appears on Cut Form Crush. The album represents an amalgam of sounds both classical and progressive, what with its lush string arrangements, crunchy jazz percussion and drum machine freak-outs.
