Magnolia Electric Co. mastermind Jason Molina's musical track record reads like a Melrose Place story arc. As a songwriter, the man is promiscuous. In a decade of recording, he's worked with the likes of Will Oldham, Scout Niblett, Alasdair Roberts and Mike Mogis, just to name a few. Will Johnson of Centro-Matic and South San Gabriel ran into Molina at shows repeatedly over the course of a few years before the two finally decided to work together. They holed up in a Texas studio for 10 days, completely shut off from the world except for occasional assistance from a few local musicians, and emerged with Molina & Johnson, a meeting of two terrifyingly prolific musical minds, 14 songs of quiet, intimate reflection.
