Chopped & Screwed might not be the proper follow-up to 2009's Jewellery, but fans of Micachu & The Shapes have plenty of new music to look forward to on this live album. Frontwoman Mica Levi was approached by the London Sinfonietta to compose music that reflected her vast array of influences, many of which she put on full display on Jewellery. But where that album blended folk, grime, and other genres, Chopped & Screwed tackles folk, classical, and drone across. The latter of those is derived from her love for DJ Screw's "chopping and screwing" technique that's mostly associated with hip-hop music. But here she and the Shapes apply it to their compositions, some of which are brand new while others were heard at performances leading up to this live recording.
