Mannequin Men

Lose Your Illusion, Too

Release Date: June 9, 2009
Label: Flameshovel

Abstract

Up until now, Mannequin Men have been Chicago's best-kept secret. If you have seen enough concerts in Chicago in recent years, you inevitably ran into Mannequin Men. If you're like me, you wondered where the hell these guys came from and rushed to their MySpace and downloaded every release you could find. The band has earned Replacements comparisons for its generation-defining appeal and snotty earnestness, even if Mannequin Men's sound better resembles a cross between the Pixies, Voidoids and Black Lips (one of the many bands they have opened for). While their ability to put on a good show was never questioned, it wasn't until 2007's Fresh Rot, which Newcity Chicago named best local album of the year, that people started to realize just how far-reaching the Mannequin Men's potential could go. Lose Your Illusion, Too, the band's third album, is a flagship release in Flameshovel's 2009 catalog, and if it's anything like the Mannequin Men's previous two releases, the hype is deserved. What remains to be seen is whether the album will pick up the Mannequin Men a national following that comes close to the maniacal appeal the band has acquired within the Windy City.
