Man With a Briefcase

The thirteen songs that make up Briefcase range from blues-y rock to straight-up pop, even touching on a bit of reggae. The variety could suggest that Noba is still looking for a sound, but the band’s unique fingerprints are left on every song, regardless of genre. From bouncy pianos to herky-jerky guitar rhythms, Noba punches up typical song structures into unusual yet accessible tunes. The highlight, "Once a Story," takes an extended vacation at its midpoint, dissolving into vast layers of instrumentation, leaving behind the sugary goodness of the verse-chorus-verse. Between this album and their work as backing band for Recipe for Sunblock, Noba is a band to watch.
