Little Brother has seen more than its fair share of ups and downs. The North Carolina indie hip-hop group burst into the limelight with 2003's arguably classic The Listening. Glowing reviews and rapturous buzz got them signed to Atlantic Records. 2006's spotty but brilliant The Minstrel Show was critically lauded (with the exception of BET, who refused to play lead single "Lovin' It," allegedly deeming it "too intelligent"), but the album ultimately flopped commercially. Atlantic subsequently left the group for dead, refusing to promote a second single, and producer 9th Wonder jumped ship. None of this stopped 2007's Getback from vaulting to many year-end best-of lists, even if the sales were modest at best. The upcoming Leftback has an air of finality about it; Phonte is promising an indefinite hiatus, with both him and Big Pooh pursuing solo careers and providing the occasional assist on each other's future endeavors. He has been referring to the project in interviews as the group's "denouement."

Im pissed the industry isnt giving little brother the shine they deserve. I cant even listen to anything else, it just not the same. Little Brother is and will be the best to ever do it.

its seems the deeming of too intelligent by BET has both helped and hurt Little Brother's chance of a wide based noterity. this group truly embraces intricate lyricism and masterful emceein'. damn shame this will be their last album. the public has no idea what they have missed out on.

Too True & too Sad.. Saw them in 08 @ the Trocadero in Philly & it was one of the greatest Hip-Hop shows I've ever been to. True MC's both of these cats... Phonte's a reall good singer too believe it or not. Damn shame the way their career paths have gone in & around the name "Little Brother". Hopefully they'll be able to make solo careers work in the big time & take that success & come back to do a LB reunion in 5 years, finally get the respect they deserve from the mainstream.

i was born in 79. grew up in the 90's listening to atcq, gangstarr, black sheep etc. When i first "On the way" i was so captivated by the new and awsome sound. Rhyme flow between the to was like the best tag team in history. It hurts me as 1 of there biggest fans to find out my fav group is leavin the scene for good. But as the saying goes all good things come to an end. The game will miss u. Keep blessing us wit ur talent and love for hiphop music. -------ghost.

Man this is ashame. The music industry, most notably rap/hip hop is horrible. Just horrible. And the public are a bunch of sheep listening to whatever MTV, BET & iTunes says is "hot." All people seem to want is songs they can dance to in the club. True hip hop heads, music fans, are losing another bright light...damn.

Thats crazy... Loved all the albums. All the "ABC" rappers are flourishing...damn shame

In the perfect world mc's like Phonte and Pooh would receive both the recognition and compensation truly deserved of mc's of their skill and ability. As a fan I literally have in my collection the entire catalogue including The Foreign Exchange albums and Sleepers. The reality is far too many youth have bought into this pseudo hip hop that gets far too much airplay and recognition. I am disgusted by the state of HIP HOP and my people wonder why I listen to mostly jazz. As for the widely played BS radio floods the airwaves with I hope that our youth one day recognizes its fallicy. I will continue to share the music of LB with EVERYONE I come in contact with. THEY WILL BE HEARD
