The 2011 release of Lenny Kravitz's ninth studio album, Black and White America, was not exactly what he had in mind. It was originally meant to drop prior to the release of his seventh effort, 2004's poorly received Baptism, which was named for its recalling his 1989 album, Let Love Rule. Kravitz of course then went on to release another project in the meantime with It Is Time for a Love Revolution in '08. He finally got back to his funk rock pet-project, though, two years later. It was then he put the finishing touches on Black and White America. The album features Kravitz playing nearly every instrument himself, though he received some help on acoustic and electric guitar from longtime collaborator Craig Ross.
