Review

Essentially Talking Heads for hipsters, "Yr City's a Sucker," off LCD Soundsystem's self-titled debut, doesn't bring enough danceable funk to work as a single. Singer/producer James Murphy's nasal delivery is best when he throws pretension out the window and wails, even in falsetto ("Daft Punk Is Playing at My House") or with a sly Tears For Fears steal on "Give It Up." And though the hypnotic bass and cowbell of "Yr City's a Sucker" induces at least a little dancing, Murphy's refrain -- "Your city's a sucker/ My city's a creep" -- suggest, in his labored half-singing, an irony and self-awareness refreshingly absent from his other gems.

As far as I'm concerned the best NYC song so far in the 21st century (sorry Jay).
