Asthmatic Kitty, with tongue-in-cheek, describes Law of the Least Effort’s Music for Measurements, the second volume of its Library Catalog Series as, “10 cuts of pure soul and marketability.” The Booker T & the MGs-style feel-good blues works effectively as catalog music (the series is designed to be licensed for films, corporate presentations and so forth) in that it sets a good vibe without demanding attention: It mostly consists of modified 12-bar blues formats, palatable riffs and easy grooves.

The Law of the Least Effort, a.k.a. Casey Foubert (Pedro the Lion, Seldom) with musicians Clarence White, Link Wray, JJ Cale and John McLaughlin, put together 11 palatable tracks in the vein of the Meters and the JBs. Yet any expectation beyond that of effective catalog music, though, would be over-reaching. This is a collection of background jams, played by good musicians, and it's enjoyable but uninspired.
