The band Laika & the Cosmonauts hails not from Russia but from nearby Finland. The group has been playing its signature brand of spaced-out surf rock for two decades now, winning over fans worldwide, especially in the U.S. Cosmopolis, as the album's name entails, is cosmopolitan, finding the band blending in more world music influences into its sound. Cosmopolis, an album mixing old and new material, also serves as the band's swan song; after the album, and a tour in support of it, the members of Laika and the Cosmonauts have vowed to hang up their instruments and retire.
