Turntablist/producer Kid Koala opted to take a slight break from recording straightforward albums following the release of Your Mom's Favorite DJ in 2006. He spent most of his touring, working with the Slew, or putting together his second graphic novel, Space Cadet, and its soundtrack. According to an interview with Spinner, Koala recorded most of the music on baby grand piano while intertwining layers of scratched violin and woodwind samples. As one could assume from it being the piece's novel, the Montreal native noted that the music sounds best when paired with the story's visuals.
