Long-running indie-rock band Joan of Arc took an unorthodox approach to crafting Boo Human. Band songwriter Tim Kinsella had a bunch of new tunes he wanted to record. So Joan of Arc settled in the studio for a week of recording and put out a sign-up sheet for whatever guest musicians might get the urge to join them. Plenty did, including folks who have played with Iron & Wine, Wilco, Prefuse 73, and other diverse acts. All of this collaboration led to an album full of divergent styles. Song titles range from the serious ("9/11 2") to the absolutely hilarious ("A Tell-Tale Penis").
