The Abergale, Wales, drone-shoegaze-ambient project led by former Godflesh frontman Justin Broadrick has been expanding the boundaries of metal since 2003. This four-track Opiate Sun EP is on Mark Kozelek's label, Caldo Verde. According to Jesu's MySpace blog, the Sun Kil Moon/Red House Painters frontman was captured by the strength of [Broadrick's] performance when he saw him live in San Francisco in 2007. This release is the first studio recording to feature the lineup of Broadrick, Dave Cochrane and Phil Petrocelli. It follows Jesu's 2009 LP, Infinity, Broadrick's 50-minute, one-track epic.
