This release from Justin K. Broadrick's always-productive Jesu project acts not only as a re-issue, but as a further investigation into his early Jesu songwriting process. Heart Ache, Jesu's two track, 40-minute debut, was originally released in 2004, and established a new artistic direction for the former Napalm Death member/Godflesh leader. As for the four songs that make up Dethroned, they were partially written and recorded around the same time as Heart Ache, but remained uncompleted until 2010. As a result of the time gap between conception and completion, Hydra Head Records claims that the unearthed EP incorporates elements that Jesu has absorbed throughout its career, which include the heaviness and melodicism of shoegaze, and the drifting qualities of ambient.
