The nine-piece Norwegian electro-jazz band Jaga Jazzist kept up a steady pace for the first half of last decade, releasing four albums and two EPs. One-Armed Bandit, though, is their first release since 2005. The band rehearsed the new album in the forests of Sweden, and then set about recording it with longtime collaborator Jørgen Træen. After Træen dropped out due to a case of tinnitus, Tortoise's John McEntire finished mixing the album. Bandleader Lars Horntveth cites Wagner and Fela Kuti as inspirations for writing One-Armed Bandit, although the Times Online points to Frank Zappa and Steve Reich.
