What seemed like an unusual collaboration at first is now already on its third album. The contrast of styles between Isobel Campbell (Belle & Sebastian) and Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees, Queens of the Stone Age) is remniscent of  the more adventurous moments in Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazelwood's catalogue, but with Campbell herself handling all the songwriting, producing and arranging duties in what has traditionally been a male role in duos such as this. Guests on Hawk include folk artist Willy Mason, who appears on two songs, and former Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha.
