Underground hip-hop artists made it clear in 2009 and '10 hip-hop would retain the classic one rapper, one producer recipe for an album. You know, acts like Gang Starr and Eric B. & Rakim. Those two years brought collaborations between Marco Polo and Torae (and Ruste Juxx, too); Freeway and Jake One; David Banner and 9th Wonder; Oddisee and Finale; and the list goes on. Continuing that tradition is Skyzoo and Illmind's Live From the Tape Deck, though both have made it clear it does not feature a throwback sound. Rather, Skyzoo said the album's title refers to when "labels made cassette tapes, it just so happens that was when records were dope." He also said the record is a collection of raw hip-hop with a cohesive backdrop, without the personal or deep cuts heard on his debut, The Salvation.
