Scottish band Idlewild has incorporated a wide spectrum of influences into its music over the years, from punk to Britpop to R.E.M.-ish jangle-rock. For their sixth release, Post Electric Blues, the six-string-clanging Scots aim at a mature blend of all the sounds that have been a part of their journey for the last records. Post Electric Blues was originally made available by Idlewild as a free download, but they subsequently decided (or perhaps it was part of the plan from the beginning) to cast a proper album out into the commercial marketplace, just to see if it can glimpse the light of day before the coffin lid closes for good on the old-school retail music biz.
