Following the untimely death of guitarist/unclean vocalist Casey Calvert in 2007, Hawthorne Heights opted for a softer, more melodic sound on 2008's Fragile Future, which was a departure from their usual post-hardcore sonics. Vowing never to replace Calvert, the band recorded that album without any dirty vocals, and the choice seemed to predict the path that the band would take. It did not take long for the band to return to their roots on the follow-up, Skeletons, which finds guitarist Micah Carli filling in as the band's unclean vocalist and making music similar to their first two albums.
