Hatebreed follows a long tradition of bands like Rush , Slayer, and White Zombie who are immensely respected within the metal community, have immense success on the charts, but remain virtually invisible to the mainstream and indie press. Their fifth studio album, For The Lions, is a cover album, and lest you think that be a bold step for a band you’ve never heard of, metal fans worldwide would smack you upside the head. You would never have guessed that their last album, 2006’s Supremacy, was their third to crack to top 50 of The Billboard 200. In fact, if you just stuck to sites like Prefix, Pitchfork, or hell, even Rolling Stone, you may never have heard of this band at all. But in reality, Hatebreed is actually one of the more interesting and creative metal bands to form this decade; unlike many metal bands who claim to love hardcore, Hatebreed actually backs it up with songs that are short, loud, fast, and pure thrash. Like their idols Slayer, they’re lyrics are constantly confused as racist or Nazi-sympathizing, when in fact they’re really just some nice boys from New Haven, Connecticut with a bone to pick with certain group of cocksuckers.
After releasing a live concert DVD in September, Hatebreed’s next album, For the Lions, consists of covers of bands that fit their diversity, including The Misfits, Cro-Mags, Negatvie Approach as well as alongside Metallica, Agnostic Front, and Sheer Terror. According to frontman Jamey Jasta, each member selected a bunch of genres and subgenres to cover, with many more tracks produced than the 12 that will ultimately be on For the Lions. There’s also a 20-page booklet in the physical editions on how each covered band influenced the respective member of Hatebreed that picked it. Also, can you guess which Misfits song Hatebreed covers? Hatebreed did everything right in my opinion, they stuck to what they wanted to do and never went mainstreem. I give them major props and their music kicks ass. Love destroy everything.

Hatebreed I think is the best band in the last years, their lyrics are great, an their sound is even better.
In the new album I went crazy When I listen to refuse-resist sepultura cover, that was one of the first band of metal that I ever listened and I think that this version is very good.

Hatebreed is my favorite band. I love all of _their_ songs. With that said I don't like 'For the lions' very much. If you are a old school metal head you will love it but the same will not apply to you if you just love hatebreed, their sound and lyrics. Is true that the songs covered influenced them but they are not them. There are some good tracks but not "hatebreed good" (or hatebreed awesomely good). It will depend if you like the sound of the bands that they covered, I, for the most part, didn't. Anyways, long live hatebreed.

Now, I haven't actually heard this yet so I can just say my expectations: the covers of mid 80's hardcore -ie bad brains and cro-mags and agnostic front- great idea; however, the covers of metallica and other related mainstream sh*t-metal I totally disagree with. Besides I heard about a new hatebreed album coming out and I about sh*t my pants until I heard it was all covers. Its okay to cover maybe one or two songs live but I have always hated when bands make cover cd's. With only the exception of the btbam cover cd that is just a display that they could rape at any genre they choose. I guess that's all I have to add..
