In Hai, the Creatures (Siouxsie Sioux and husband Budgie’s 20-year-plus Banshees side-project-turned-primary-project) join with Taiko drummer Leonard Eto to create an expansive, 50-minute, rhythmic soundscape. Siouxsie’s legendary vocals (is any other adjective adequate?) elevate these trembling, stamping, polyrhythmic tracks off the ground into the realm where she reigns over the leagues of gothic female vocalists she has spawned over her significant career’s course. So, for Siouxsie aficionados, this is a must; Hai is a shadowy and absorbing album. If you’re looking to hear another Juju or Kaleidoscope, you’ll likely find Hai wanting.
