Review

In between working on another Madvillain album, the Stoney Jackson project with Strong Arm Steady, and a multi-disc multi-month release, the producer who never sleeps (Madlib) is putting together a record with Detroit MC Guilty Simpson. The title is a play on the involved players’ names -- O.J. stands for Madlib’s real name, Otis Jackson, and Simpson, of course, comes from Guilty Simpson. These two Stones Throw artists have linked up numerous times over their respective careers, especially on Guilty’s solo debut Ode To The Ghetto. And those collaborations come to a head on O.J. Simpson, an album chock full of the deep-voiced MC’s street tales and bravado over Madlib’s experimental yet gritty loops.
