Super Furry Animals frontman Gruff Rhys has never been known for following a predictable path, but he may have outdone himself with The Terror of Cosmic Loneliness. The Welsh singer has teamed up with Brazilian electronic musician Tony Da Gatorra (whose sideline as a VCR repairman has proved irresistible to blogosphere headline writers) for an album whose trippy cover only hints at its eccentricity. Rather than the hippie/psychedelic affair the album art might suggest, Cosmic Loneliness is an edgy, urgent, off-the-cuff outing full of angular electronics and odd sonic flavorings, sort of Rhys's own Embryonic.
