Grandmaster Flash

The Bridge: Concept of a Culture

Release Date: March 3, 2009
Label: Strut

Abstract

Grandmaster Flash is one of the progenitors of hip-hop, but like a lot of rappers from the '80s, he's often left out of lists of the best rappers. The former leader of the Furious Five is trying to rectify that situation with his first album in 20 years, The Bridge: Concept of a Culture. The album features a bevy of contemporary rappers-- Snoop Dogg, Q-Tip and Busta Rhymes,-- as well as some of Flash's old fogie associates like Big Daddy Kane and KRS-One. Whether one of the songs lifts a bass line from Liquid Liquid is not known.
