For their second full-length release, this critically-lauded Canadian indie trio expands to a quintet. For those keeping track, the original lineup of brothers Tim and Steven Batke and Paul Arnusch has been augmented with bassist Scott Gallant and a third Batke brother, Rob who plays keyboards. Like 2005’s High Expectations/Low Results, this disc mixes electronic soundscapes with whispery vocals and introspective songwriting. Dreamy atmospheres are again conjured thanks to the Faunts smart use of synthesizers that buzz, percolate or even seem to cry, as on the melancholy “It Hurts Me all the Time.” An effort that’s both danceable and dreamy.
