Ewan Pearson's third commercial mix, having already turned in releases for the illustrious Fabric and Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi series, is a project for Cologne's Kompakt. In the tradition of other Kompakt mixes, such as Michael Mayer's fabled Immer and DJ Koze's All People Are My Friends, We Are Proud of Our Choices showcases a melodically-attuned sensibility and a penchant for blending lush soundscapes with the sensuous 4/4 thump of tech/house.
The title is a reference to a line from an old Montreal socialist song which Pearson came across in a book by G.A. Cohen. It is meant to suggest that everyone, but especially DJs, had better be willing to stand behind the choices they make because often that is all they will have to show for themselves. Pearson—as he always does, be it producing for acts like The Rapture and Tracy Thorn, DJing or working with Al Usher as half of Partial Arts—follows his own idiosyncratic muse on We Are Proud, with scant regard for the ever-changing trends of dance culture.
