The genealogists at Temporary Residence have begun filling in the last branches on the indie-royalty family tree. After a brief stint with the Breeders, Slint drummer Britt Walford joined his Louisville, Kentucky compadres in Evergreen. This re-released 1996 self-titled recording was the electrifying result of their first studio Adventure -- ahem, sorry -- adventure. There are Thirteen Songs -- ahem, sorry -- thirteen songs on this album. Recorded by DFA's James Murphy in Brooklyn, Evergreen is meant to be played loud. Turn it up loud enough and the angular guitars, raucous party-time grooves and Sean McLoughlin's banshee wailing will assault your ears like Death From Above -- ahem, sorry -- death from above. I wonder why Temporary Residence decided to re-release this album now?
