Along with turning Eminem into a full-fledged star, The Slim Shady LP carried with it the promise of a collaborative project between he and fellow Detroit native Royce da 5'9" thanks to the track "Bad Meets Evil." But in the years following the album's release in 1999, the rappers had a falling out and instead focused on other projects. One of those would eventually lead to their reconciliation as Royce's group, Slaughterhouse, signed to Eminem's Shady Records imprint in 2010. The Motor City duo then began working on the Bad Meets Evil EP behind the scenes, before releasing their first single, the blistering "Fast Lane," in April 2011. The effort includes production from DJ Premier, Bangladesh, Havoc, DJ Khalil, and Mr. Porter, with the latter handling the bulk of the duties.
