New York's Elk City is one of those indie bands that posses impeccable taste in what it chooses for its influences. Nothing too obscure, mind you, just the right doses of this, that, and the other -- specifically ‘60s/’70s rock and folk, and dreamy psych-pop. This tasteful, restrained approach has enabled the band to quietly plug away for nearly a decade in a ridiculously crowded New York City scene. House of Tongues, the band’s fifth full-length, is a tribute to that dogged, unobtrusive approach. It is the band’s second for the Brooklyn-based Friendly Fire label.
