Bands with names that conjure boredom - for instance, the word "editor" - often are anything but. Birmingham, U.K.'s Editors are bringing goth sounds up to date, going a bit more Sisters of Mercy to Interpol's quasi-Joy Division. "Bullets" is a killer single: blinding guitar stabs, tension-building bass, the majesty and swirl of Coldplay's "Clocks" with a dark, glinting sharp edge. "Time to Slow Down" is an innovation buried as a B-side, hushed circus calliopes backing a doo-wop group with hushed acoustics with a tinge of lullaby.
