Dwele

Sketches of a Man

Release Date: June 24, 2008
Label: Koch Records

Abstract

In 1998 a young musician made the first serious claim to take Stevie Wonder's Renaissance Soul Man throne. Appropriately hailing from the Motor City, singer, musician and songwriter Dwele quietly pressed a demo called Rize that literally inverted Stevie's world pop in contemporary terms and quickly garnered the attention of major labels. Ten years and two major-label albums later, Dwele unfortunately has not been granted Stevie-level acclaim. But he finally made serious inroads with the help of his friend Kanye West, singing the hook to "Flashing Lights" and appearing elsewhere on Graduation, and the good folks at Stax/Concord, who invited him to contribute to the Grammy-nominated tribute to Earth, Wind & Fire compilation. Dwele's follow-up is his third record, which hopes to take full advantage of this recent attention. Again produced, written and performed almost entirely by the artist himself, he brings only a few choice collaborators into his fold, including G-1, the producer of Dwele's breakout single, "Find a Way," who returns here on the lead single "I'm Cheatin'," and producer Nottz.

I am thoroughly enjoying this album.....classic soul. Fantastic music, it tells a story. This is what musicians are missing today.

I am from the same stomping grounds as Mr. Dwele and I feel the soul and detroit flava definitely.

If you don't have all of his albums, make sure you get them immediately

Buy this cd, don't burn it, Buy it! It's worth the investment! I own all of Dwele's stuff and I've definitely gotten my money's worth and more! I'm always surprised at how sultry his beats are ! It's such a sensual gritty sound that makes you want to throw in an extra hip thrust on ya lady when ya making love to her, as you watch the sweat drip from her forehead after an hour of blissful pleasure! SKETCHES OF A MAN, the title speaks for itself! PEACE

I must agree with A Dwele Fan4 Life below - definitely go out and purchase "Sketches". Each track just flows beautifully into the next. Dwele is definitely getting better with each subsequest album release and purchasing him ensures that we can continue to be treated to new material.

I slept on Dwele until a chance meeting with him a few years back. He was as humble and charming in person as you would imagine from listening to him. I went right out the next day and bought "Subject" and I told my sister that we would definitely be hearing more from this multi-talented young man.
