Dr. Dog seems like a band that was born a few decades too late. The group plays blues and country inflected rock 'n' roll that would have fit right in during the heyday of AM radio. Dr. Dog favors old-timey looking album art and promotional photos. And just take a gander at some of the song names on Fate: "The Old Days," "Army of Ancients," "The Ark," "100 Years," "Uncovering the Old." (These come after the standout track on 2007's We All Belong was named "My Old Ways." I sense a theme.) But it's exactly that harking back to when songcraft meant more than just jingles used to sell products that makes Dr. Dog's music so warm and inviting. There is plenty more of that lush yet ramshackle pop on Fate.

So underrated. Why isn't this band huge?
