Cincinnati MC Donwill is best known as one-third of a hip-hop trio you have probably mistaken for a soul singer. Tanya Morgan already had a few solid projects under its collective belt, but the trio broke out in 2009 with Brooklynati. The De La Soul comparisons were unavoidable. It isn’t just that Tanya Morgan, like De La, is three guys making true-school hip-hop. It’s the fact that this young trio showed shades of brilliance and creativity like their seasoned rap brethren did more than 20 years ago. And in 2010, Tanya Morgan’s three members are looking to go solo before their next group record. Donwill’s project is Don Cusack in High Fidelity, an obvious play on the classic relationship movie. He is joined on this R&B-tinged record by producers Von Pea, Brick Beats, Keelay & Zaire, and A-Plus while sharing the microphone with Che Grand and Opio.
