Rap is one of the few mediums where, after an artist has had a string of run-ins with the law, they don't turn to religion. After all, most rappers try to stay as hood as possible while going up to the podium and thanking God at award ceremonies. However, if said run-ins with the law are accompanied with a fall from esteem, as in the case of DMX, then it makes a lot of sense to go to a higher power. DMX is even putting his faith in his work, releasing a gospel album, You'll Fly With Me Later as a companion to his rap album, Walk With Me Now.
It's hard to imagine the dude who growls "X GON GIVE IT TO YA" in your dreams doing gospel music, right? He receives help from Seal, Pharrell, and Tyrese, so maybe he'll more like a conductor, a la Kirk Franklin.
