In early 2009, producer DJ Revolution teamed up with the rapper duo of Malcolm & Martin, also known as Styliztik Jones and KB Imean, to create a funk-inspired mixtape, Movement Music. The success of the project led them to begin working on a proper album together, 2011's Life Doesn't Frighten Me, as well as another mixtape inspired by a past movement. This time, though, the hip-hop trio would look to 1987's Boogie Down Productions' classic Criminal Minded for the inspiration for Malcolm & Martin were...Criminal Minded. Like the BDP record, the mixtape is a fueled by political commentary, hard-hitting beats, and turntable mastery.
