Ask a hip-hop head who his or her favorite producer is and chances are you will hear Pete Rock or DJ Premier mentioned within seconds of finishing your question. And why not? They have crafted some of the genre's most recognized beats, from "They Reminisce Over You" to "Nas Is Like" and everything in between and after. They have also appeared together on classic albums, such as their crafting several beats individually on Nas's Illmatic. As such, the news of Premo and Rock making a record together wasn't that surprising, especially when you consider they have shared numerous DJ sets squaring off against each other. It was those shows that actually led to the creating of Pete Rock vs. DJ Premier, although any actual information on what will be heard on the album remains unknown.
